Active Vacation
In summer
In the mountain summer the chalet seems to be rocking on grass waves. From its terraces the view can wander over wide meadows, dense fairy woods, high mountains and deep valley. The farmhouse is located directly on the forest border and almost invites you to explore the surrounding nature.
Summer activities
In the mountain summer, Obertilliach is a heart-fresh refuge and ideal starting point for enjoyable walks in the forest, alpine hikes and summit tours, for hiking, biking, paragliding and more - whatever suits you.
E-biking
Numerous grandiose tours with magnificent views of the peaks await you in the surrounding area. In the middle of the Carnic Alps, framed by the Lienz and South Tyrolean Dolomites, you are offered a unique mountain panorama. Let us know in advance when and how many e-bikes you need, so that we can take care of the organization.
Hiking
Hiking is probably the best way to experience the landscape around Obertilliach. Peaks, meadows, mountain lakes or alpine huts, explore the most beautiful hiking trails and hiking areas in the surroundings yourself. Whether beginner or advanced, children or adults, there is something for everyone here.
Golf
The golf club "Dolomitengolf Osttirol" (about 50 minutes by car from the chalet), is the largest golf course in Tyrol and enchants golf lovers with its two 18-hole courses, with changing course combinations, as well as the breathtaking backdrop of the Lienz Dolomites. A day trip to the golf course can be ideally combined with a visit to the sunny town of Lienz.
Paragliding
The area around the chalet is a paradise for paragliders. The perfect thermals as well as the fantastic location in the upper Lesach valley between the peaks of the Lienz Dolomites and the Carnic main ridge will provide you with unforgettable hours with wonderful views. The offer ranges from courses for beginners to advanced flights.
In winter
In winter, the Mountain Lodge floats as if on a snow-white cloud. Looking out through its windows, you can see green conifers sprouting from the snow and steep hilltops.
Winter activities
At winter time, the Lesachtal is especially exciting for cross-country skiers: a 60 km long dream trail and the biathlon center Osttirol are right on the doorstep. From the chalet you can wonderfully set off for snowshoe hikes, ski touring destinations, cross-country skiing excursions or tobogganing. Here white winter feelings are awakened.
Skiing
For skiing enthusiasts there are three ski resorts in the area. The ski area Golzentipp is the smallest of them and is located about 5 minutes by car from the chalet. The Sillian ski area can be reached in 20 minutes by car and for the advanced skiers among you, the Helm ski area is extremely suitable, which is about 45 minutes away from the chalet.
Cross-country skiing
Obertilliach is truly a cross-country skiing El Dorado. The perfectly groomed, approximately 60 km long Grenzlandloipe, starting from the biathlon center in Obertilliach, is a popular training site with the world's best cross-country skiers and biathletes, as well as many amateur athletes from all over the world. Already at the beginning/mid of November the first cross-country skiers cavort on one of the most beautiful and varied trails in all of Austria.
Ski touring
Obertilliach offers ski tours with great panoramas and views of the Lesach Valley and the surrounding Lienz Dolomites. Here you will find a wide range of tours with different levels of difficulty. Please follow the underlying rules of conduct and take care of yourself.
Snowshoe hiking
Obertilliach and its surroundings offer fantastic opportunities for snowshoe hikers. For beginners the guided snowshoe tours are suitable, advanced hikers are welcome to explore the landscape on their own.
A landscape from the past
The authenticity of the house is also a feature of the surroundings. A pure idyll at a bracing 1,235 metres in East Tyrol’s , Gailtal-Lesachtal and the Carnic Alps - a secret corner of an unspoilt world ... shhh!
Vacation in the middle of art and nature
A vacation in the mountains can also be the right moment to seek out surprising and fascinating places of art and culture. Not far from the Refugium Tilliach is the village of Obertilliach. The village center was included in the "List of immovable and archaeological monuments under monument protection" of the Austrian Federal Monuments Office because of its originally preserved Tyrolean farmhouses. We also recommend a visit to the Carriage and Local History Museum and the Catholic Parish Church of St. Ulrich. About 40 minutes by car from the chalet is the sunny town of Lienz, also called the "Pearl of the Dolomites". Also worth seeing there is Bruck Castle, perched on a hilltop and highly interesting from an architectural and historical point of view, as well as Aguntum, the excavation site of the only Roman city in Tyrol with visible city walls, living quarters, thermal baths and macellum or marketplace.
The "Sun city" Lienz
Lienz, the seventh largest city in Tyrol, captivates with its southern flair and more than 2,070 hours of sunshine a year and represents the economic, cultural and social center of East Tyrol.
Museum "Aguntum"
The sensational excavation site of the only Roman city in Tyrol with its historic city walls, living quarters, thermal baths and its market place. Unique!
"Bruck" Castle
The monumental castle is one of the main sights of East Tyrol and today houses the Museum of the City of Lienz with the most extensive collection of works by the East Tyrolean painter Albin Egger-Lienz.
